Kuwait And Mughniya

News Analysis

The tiny gulf nation is finding itself at the heart of the Arab-Iranian cold war.

When Imad Mughniya was killed, there was a polite public consensus among Lebanese politicians to treat him as a heroic resister to Israel. The pro-western Lebanese media and Mr. Seniora spoke of him in relatively good terms (to the outrage of their grass root)

The trend seemed pan-Arab at first, but a Kuwaiti official came up on Al-Jazeera and blasted Mughniya in terms not even the Israelis have used. The Kuwaitis, it seems, believed that Mughniya was involved in past plane highjacking and bombings that targeted their country. The feeling runs so high in Kuwait that when two Kuwaiti Shiaa MPs joined a commemoration for Mughniya, the Kuwaiti establishment and its media were outraged.

If one adds Kuwait’s newspapers, which constantly break tabloid-style, often unsubstantiated stories against Syria, Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon, one would understand the background against which the latest harassment of Kuwait and Kuwaitis is taking place in Lebanon.

Hezbollah supporters defiantly put a large graffiti of Mughniya on the wall of the Kuwaiti embassy in Beirut (see picture), while an “anonymous” caller threatened to blast it with two missiles.  At the same time, a high-ranking Iranian official accused “Arab Intelligence” of involvement in assassinating Mughniya.

Buckle up. This is going to be quite a ride.

  1. For those that moron and regard this terrorist… What have you descended to when you elevate a mass murderer thug to a hero status. Have you lost your human values or moral compass, have you sunk to such lows that you cheer the death of innocent life to hide your incompetence. I pity your backwardness.

  2. If you just heard Nasrallah you’ll realize that we are further away from a solution than we ever were. Honestly, thank God for that. Does anyone in their right mind want a consensus solution with this lunatic. Any concession would basically be chopping up Lebanon and any future it has as an independent nation and giving it out. Each concession will bring Lebanon closer to disintegration.

I would like to see the Orangies now try to argue that Nasrallah’s borders are Lebanon.

  3. Kuwait’s got it right. They learned something from being invaded in 1990 and on who their friends are.

The other idiot Arabs, Saniora top of the list, are still singing the praises of those who would kill them, and think there is some political gain from it.

  5. What a thug terrorist psychopath called Mughanié.

His dirty hands are involved in the bombs that killed Hariri, Gebran and Eido. May he brun in hell this bastard called Mughanié.

Hope the turn will come to his lover Hassouna to die in the same way.

At least, Syrians have one real advantage: they can rock Hisbollah’s ass and Mughanié’s dead is the proof.
