Who killed Mr. Eid? Was it Fath-el-Islam? Was it Syria? Actually, it was both.

Captain Eid Honored (AFP)
The Lebanese were divided into two camps yesterday. The anti-Syrians were saying that the Syrians killed him because he was the genius who was putting together the tribunal’s data, and the pro-Syrians were saying that he was killed by the Islamists of Fateh Al Islam because of his crucial role in uncovering them.
So who is right? Well, perhaps both are.
Annahar, Lebanon’s largest daily, revealed this today
????? “??????” ?? ????? ????? ????? ??????? ?? ?????? ??? ??? ????? ??? ????????? ???? ?????. ?????? ??? ??? ????? ??? ???? ??? ???? ???????? ???? ???? “??? ???????” ?????????? ??????? ??????? ??????? ??? ???? ????? ?????? ????? ?? ????? ????????? ???????? ???? ????? ?????? ?? ?????? ???? ???? ??????? ?????? ???? ???????.
In short, Mr. Eid was, according to “high ranked security insiders”, the very officer who unveiled the relationship between Fateh Al Islam and Syria and traced it back to Assef Shawkat, the Syrian intelligence mastermind whom many blame for the Hariri Murder.

Hello, my name is Mustapha and I've been blogging about Lebanese society, business and politics since February 2005.
oh, okay. so if mustapha and annahar say so, then it must be. good work detective. i got to give you props mustapha, the soil hasnt even hardened on this man’s grave and you already nailed down the culprit and the motive.
(NOT meant at you Muss, sorry but repost from AK’s blog)
Notice the response to all these crimes and events, by the pols, the press and people:
They all ask : “what is the message?” instead of “how can it be stopped?”.
The latter question is IMPLICITLY set aside until ???? we have a prez? the parliament opens? IT?? That is totally WRONG.
Like when all other pressing issues are/were put on the backburner until, you know: the Pali question is resolved, there’s peace in the region, there’s a new US prez, my aunt grows a pair of balls and becomes my uncle etc
They are killing you people and you are all asleep at the switch, starting with the funeral-director-in-chief, useless fuck. and Gaza-protector Saniora.
You’re staying to protect the country?? Then fucking do something!!
Measures are NEEDED YESTERDAY, regardless of prez election, border shit, and US election you idiots. If a reaction is feared, well what’s worse than the descent to the next circle of hell, you freaks?
Mustapha,
I like that line from David B. Kenner – Opening Lines:
“The people who keep peddling the “they’re killing their own to discredit Syria!” line rarely give the impression that they’re arguing in earnest, so it’s hard to summon the energy to hit back at them. I suppose they continue with it because they’re called on to say something, and it’s not pleasant to admit that one is allied with murderers.”

Common Mus, it’s Israel of course. Said Hassan has already nailed the “culprit and the motive” about all these assassinations. Do you need any more evidence. That’s it, we should all take our critical thinking hat off, put our brains in the freezer and chant labaik ya Said. Need I, or ali above, or the many of Bashar’s defense lawyers who comment on this blog tell you that what the Said says is the absolute truth. You should know it by now.
ali,
Forget M8 vs M14 or any other M’ing opinion. Just anwser me this: with all YOU know about the Syrians and their history and their regime, would you be honest with yourself if you didn’t admit that they could very well be behind this and more?
First, to borrow from Bill Clinton: “It is the Tribunal, Stupid!!!”
Second, knowing the history of the Syrian regime, the threats that they had made, and their connections to some groups direct everyone unbiased (with an ounce of brain) to say it is the Syrian regime!!!
Third, the opposition’s claim it is Israel, why are they objecting to the tribunal? Let’s put them the criminals (whoever they are) on trial!
Last but not least, if the opposition are saying that the US does not want to have a president elected, my response is come to the Parliament and elect a president!!!
“the pro-Syrians were saying that he was killed by the Islamists of Fateh Al Islam because of his crucial role in uncovering them.” There is an addendum to this accusation – the correct translation is that the killers are FAI, and FAI is Sunni and financed by Hariri. That’s the real point they are trying to make.
The interesting thing that I’ve noticed after this particular assassination is that the finger is pointing a lot at Hezbollah … openly at Hezbollah. It’s also clear to just about everyone that there has to be some inside work here, and FAI does not have that capability. The Pro-Syrians will soon put all blame on the Americans for this murder. I have no idea how they will work that into their anti-Sunni agenda but have no doubt they will try to do so.
Same old story: who did and what is the message behind it? We know the answer for God’s sake!
Instead we should ask how to stop it as mentioned above!
Unless March 8 start paying for their killing and terrorism, they will not stop this game.
Eye for Eye Again that’s the only language because the Rule of Law and Human Rights are absent in the International Relations, at least in the ME.
Guys, could you imagine when Democrats arrive to the White House. They’ll start bargaining with Iranians and Syrians on the Lebanese blood.
March 14 should act now and stop pussy-victim attitude.
Unless we act and we’re worthy of our freedom, we will not get it!
??? ?????? ????? ???
Gaza has liberated Egypt!
Happy for the misery of Gaza! You want to transform Lebanon to a second Gaza? I am sure your Saÿed would love that: like he did in July 2006.
Instead of building and growing like Dubaï, other Emirates and like Hariri planned. Hizzy (aka hizballa) want Lebanon to become second Gaza.
God help us against safavid-alawite terror machines.
Who cares who killed him- if it’s syria or fatah al islam. They are both cut from the same cloth.
Both are ennemies of Lebanon, and the big losers are the Lebanese themselves and Lebanese institutions.
The root cause of all this is Hezbollah who is gaining more power. The passage of time makes them stronger and makes the State and M14 weaker; it’s that simple.
The sad truth is the Lebanese themselves seem to be in total discord, which is the Syrian strategy of divide-and-conquer, deja vu all over again.
Sam – you’re right. M14 should have the balls to act now. The legitimacy is on their side.
They should bluff Berri so he can open the parliament and then do a 50+1 on him, but can they play dirty like the others do?
They killed him because they know nothing is going to happen if they do.
And they are right!
And they will kill again and again!
And nothing will happen.
M14 is nothing but a group of wussies, and their followers are on the same level as the hezb or the aounis.
None will ever hold their leaders accountable.
Lebanon is going toward a logical confrontation where one winner will take it all. Stop wasting time!
Fight back or take the boat!
All this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrating.!
Damn.
.
I actually believe in a different story. Both this attack and the one on the American embassy vehicle have Hizballah written all over them. The first was in response to Bush’s verbal rape of Tehran from the Arab states, and the second could’ve also been motivated by the many problems Hizballah had with the ISF, the latest being a few days ago in Baalbak.
Even the attack on El-Hajj couldn’t have been completed had there not been a facilitation from Hizballah.
I mean let’s not think that Syria is behind everything. Hizballah does have an agenda of its own, and Syria only benefits from the chaos that agenda creates. The 10+10+10 demand is merely an example.
According to StratFor HA behind the latest assassination… http://www.10452lccc.com/terrorism/hezboillah.eid27.1.08.htm
Well, well…
It seems that someone listened to what i’m saying and took the streets and is fighting back.
Oooops
Not the ones that I invited!
Don’t overlook Hizballah, at least some elements of it.
Hey ali, and other similar bozos…
I guess if Israel and the US are always the ones to blame for any kinda of instability in Lebanon (that’s the line Nassrallah always peddles), i’m going to have to wonder if the idiots that keep burning tires, blocking roads near Dahieh, and shooting at police and army personel, are all on the payroll of Israel and the US.
I’m sure all the folks in Dahieh would love to hear how “The Israeli hand is behind all this unrest, and trying to sow discord amongst Lebanese”.
Right?
Right? I mean, isn’t that the line we hear from Nassrallah everytime someone fires a shot anywhere? “It’s not Syria! It’s not us! It’s the Israelis. They are always looking to stir up trouble in Lebanon and divide us!”
I guess all the shia in Dahieh will be happy to know they are Israeli agents.
(That was sarcasm, btw, for those too thick to grasp it).
Bad Vilbel,
After what’s happened today, time has come for March 14 masses to ask for closure from their leaders. Yes, I am against throwing the full responsibility on H.A. and Syria’s shoulders.
Our leaders must be convinced that unless they go directly after Hizballah’s arms today, they will lose everything.
It was the bayan wizari that WE created that said there will always be Moqawameh and the Moqawameh will keep its weapons and and and….Well, the holy weapons of the All Mighty Resistance have been used against the Lebanese, and not in 1988, but in 2008.
So, what is the majority, and all those people you voted for gonna do about it? Re-draft another Bayan Wizari praising and glorifying the Moqawameh? When this thing settles down……probably.
I really hope this serves as a wake up call to everyone.
If we’re going to give the blind eye to Hizballah’s possible involvement in the latest bombings (ISF, Karantina) let’s at least not give the blind eye to that which doesn’t even need an investigation.
The time has come for a serious discussion on how react to this event and the need to deal with Hizballah’s arms today while they’re obstructing the presidency. Let it be known that while they can obstruct the state, we can deliver a huge blow to the moqawameh.
Name names – if they know who was involved, then tell the people and make it very clear. IF it is Hezbollah …. what more can they do than they started today? This “fear” of them has gone on long enough, and their threats of “what they will do” are already happening.
It is working, who ever killed him managed to put more pressure on M14. Hmmm, is this the goal?
