The Face Of Lebanon, A Rotten Mercedes

Here are some Lebanon links to start off the day and quench your insatiable appetite for Lebanese talk. (Let’s face it, why else are you here? )

1- Borzou Daragahni found a metaphor to describe the Lebanese situation:

In Beirut, this scarred Mercedes — prone to overheating — struggles forward as a taxi. The exodus of Lebanon’s young and talented has intensified as a deadline approaches for the government’s two opposing camps to come up with a president. read more..

2- Benny Avni tries to make the NY Sun‘s readers care about Lebanon by starting his article with this sentence “As Lebanon goes [..] so goes the rest of the Middle East. Regrettably, Lebanon is about to go“. Drama aside, a good read for those who need a quick update.

3- Sheikh Fadlallah said recently that the Lebanese crisis is political, not sectarian. Is he right? Check out the findings of the most recent PEW poll on Lebanon, released on November 15 , which concludes that your sect is a good predictor of your attitude towards various regional players.

  1. :-)

I’m surprised we still find after all the massacres the U.S. did to Lebanon in the summer war of 2006 (yes, the US and not Israel), we still find the U.S. as a friend.

America give Lebanon Humvees to police (rather than safekeep) it’s people, and we should feel thankful; in a world where oil prices are skyrocketing by the day and by the least news the U.S. instantiates in the middle east.

We always bet on the big battalion.

China is ‘probably’ the Only world supper power that is not intimately involved in Lebanon; even then, I have my doubts.

    We must be the change.

  2. The Lebanese went to mass suicide two summers ago punk! The US has been shouting out loud for years: put a leash on hizballah.
But NO, we want to go to a gun fight armed with a kitchen knife, and then we cry on our “martyrs/sheeps”, and instead of thanking the US for giving us humvies for our police to keep the peace, we thank Iran for giving us stupid missiles that falls in forests and get the israelis retaliate with missiles that hit us between the eyes…
Yes let the ones like you be the change and we will be back to the caves in ten years and back to the trees in 20.
BTW oil is rising because of your chineese friends ya lamba.
