Syria And The Lebanese Presidential Election

Abdallah Iskandar wrote a piece in Alhayat in which he explains Syria’s interests in the Lebanese election.

For example, Iskandar explains what Syria means when it says that it wants a President that has a good relationship with Syria:

The justification for this relationship is that the security of Lebanon is part of the security of Syria. However, the meaning of security here is not security that is connected with the higher interests of each of the two countries. It is connected with the security of the regime in the two countries. The threat comes necessarily from Lebanon, because security in Syria is firm, and because the renewed anarchy has its source in Lebanon.

  1. Walid El Moallem said: ‘Syria has no candidate in this presidential election.’ Yeah, right, then why are they killing the March 14 MPs…and ‘the security of Lebanon is part of the security of Syria.’ maybe that’s why they sent us Chaker El-Absi and his thugs…He has a strange sense of humor.
