In other words, we'd end up right back up where we were pre July 2006.
Hezb and their weapons will remain legitimized, part of cabinet, and able to start wars or hold the country hostage anytime they wanted to.

And we'll just bide our time under the banner of "consensus" until the next crisis or war.

Good work, chaps! What a bunch of idiots.

It's Taef 1.5 accord which replaces the SOS (Syrian Operating system) with IOS (Iranian Operating System).

I really think Iran za7latouh Syria from the formula and they are taking charge...

Now we should see what will Syria do to get back into the game... Allah Yestour

i like the reference to "jumblat fuming".

it tells a lot about the drivers behind some of the March 14 supporters and how it is not in everyone's best interest to obtain consensus.

[...] In the tradeoff borne of those talks, Lebanon would receive a presidential election uninhibited by Hizballah’s threat of a January 23rd repeat - with the added bonus of a raiding of ministerial offices - and the issue of Hizballah’s weapons would be contained in the cabinet - to be newly formed after the election of a new president would have significant representation for the group.
I am wondering who the Iranians have in mind for president? Aoun? Once president, he might not accept the state within the state that Hezbollah has created. Now, about the Resistance, it did earn the respect of most of the Lebanese people during the Israeli occupation of the South; however, it is about time they give up their weapons and stop getting orders from Tehran. Otherwise, Lebanon might be engulfed into a new civil war or be frangmented again. Some pro-FL & Kataeb Christians are advocating the creation of a mini-Lebanon; while, I am sure, Joumblat's Druze have a back up plan to create a Druze state from the Chouf to the Jebel Druze.
