Syria Occupies Lebanon. Again
Read Bret Stephens article in the Wall Street Journal in which he describes Syria’s latest land grab as “proportionally equivalent to a foreign power occupying Arizona. “
Stephens refers to the latest report by the International Lebanese Committee for UNSCR 1559:
In meticulous detail–supplemented by photographs, satellite images, archival material and Lebanese military maps predating Syria’s 1976 invasion (used as a basis of comparison with Syria’s current positions)–the authors describe precisely where and how Lebanon has been infiltrated. In the area of the village of Maarboun, for instance, the authors observed Syrian military checkpoints a mile inside Lebanon. In the Birak al-Rassass Valley, they photographed Syrian anti-aircraft batteries. On the outskirts of the village of Kossaya they found a heavily fortified camp belonging to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, in violation of U.N. resolutions and Lebanese demands.

Don’t you find it hypocritical that you call the FPM and Hezbollah as Syrian agents in Lebanon although in the presence of Syria in Lebanon , Harri and Jumblatt and others where the main beneficiaries of that era, in the time where Aoun was fighting it from Paris and Hezbollah never participated in any of those fake governments that were lead by Rafic Hariri and they were in the opposite to its unbalanced policies.
Khaled, you have no respect for at least 50% of the Lebanese who are fed up from Syria, Iran and your backward Hezb and mollahs.
I think Khaled is half right: March 14 leaders are indeed spineless cowards. What are the chances of them doing anything to end the Syrian occupation of Lebanese land? Considering the outrage over the postage stamp sized Shebaa farms, every patriotic Lebanese man, woman and child ought to be taking arms and join the resistance, but of course, they won’t. I don’t want the next president of the parliament to be a mollah as well I don’t want the President of the republic to be the Maronite Patriarch or the PM to be the Mufti of the Republic.
You call us cowards because we want to make peace with Israel? The PLO made peace with Israel and they missed a golden opportunity to build a state in the West bank and Ghaza. Why should Lebanon remain the only front against Israel?
During the Syrian occupation, the Lebanese politicians had no other choice than collaborating with the Syrians otherwise, they would have been assassinated. The perfect proof is how Harriri got eliminated when he turned against the Syrian regime.
And please, Khaled, stop accusing Mustafa and the commentator on this blog s of being Israel agents, we are free Lebanese citizens and expatriates who dream about a peaceful and prosperous free Lebanon.

Militant vs. civilians is an asymmetrical relationship. Car bombs and suicide bombers result in mass murder and many injured casualties. In the present, mass murder is rare within western democracies but such events occur DAILY where tribalism and sectarianism continue to exist. Many Lebanese have risen above that depravity, others persist in that kind of activity, all the while claiming that the source of the problem is elsewhere. If Khaled is in Lebanon then the problem is in Lebanon.

Here are my questions:
1.Why do Hizballah supporters always ignore the fact that the UN requested written confirmation from Syria that the Shebaa farms are Lebanese and they refused to give it.I mean all it would take is a paper saying : It’s not ours. Would you please comment on this.
2.Why should we leave the Lebanese prisoners in syrian jails, so that (according to the memorandum)we do not have”tension and negativity”, shouldn’t we be tense and negative if Lebanese citizens are illegally held in ALL foreign jails? Wasn’t that Hizballah’s reason for the war last summer? Or do the Lebanese in syrian jails not count as much as the Lebanese in Isreali jails?
3.There is nothing in this about land occupied by syrians, should we keep quite on this so we don’t have “tension and negativity” too?
4. In your heart of hearts khaled, and if you are honest with yourself, do you not at least have a little bit of suspicion that Syria has had a hand in assasinations/arming pro-syrian palastinain armed forces/ a camp full of salafist maniacs that is conveniently located on the sea side near the syrian border? Be honest, not even a little suspicion?
How’s about we at least admit that Lebanon has more than one enemy? Or even if Hizballah doesn’t think of the syrian regime as an enemy perhaps they should respect the opinion of the millions of Lebanese who do, and stop dealing with them in a “privileged relationship”. I mean didn’t it upset you even a little when Nasrallah gave “Dur3 al Muqauameh” to them?

we agree that there are sensibilities legitimate concerns when it comes to the Syrian behavior in Lebanon, but I think some people would argue that the fault is not one-sided. Regardless, one would think that people learn from their mistakes, but again corruption and greed drowns people in following the same route with another country-ies which is/are considered by a lot of Lebanese as an oppressor to Arabs and Muslims and always vetoing anything that favors their human right issues in the Security Council / United Nations. This is where the danger lies, by pulling Lebanon back to the previous Status-Quo but under a different flag-s this time.
So, I hope that we can agree that we need to focus on our internal problems and challenges to conform with each other as one sovereign nation with a set of common objectives which will give us the proper immunity, so in other way clean up our house before we invite anybody for dinner or for a business meeting or for auditing if you want etc…..
The agreement prescribed a cure for internal problems, and of course if you have any additional ideas to add value for the better will be great. We want you to join the unity and stop falling for this new propaganda of fear and lies that they are using through various ways to cave the people to their submission.
