Will Lebanon 'Erupt' On July 15?

When the Syrian government asks all its citizens to leave Lebanon before July 15 and Iranians newspapers write of an upcoming eruption in mid July, not to mention the fact that Israeli intelligence starts taking precautions, should we, the Lebanese, be worried?

Or are these all theatrics to push us to compromise? Any thoughts on this?

  1. I do not think the Syrian government care much about its citizens…It is BS to add the pressure.

  2. They also asked all the Syrian students to go study in Syria next year.

but as kheireddine said, when was the last time Syria cared about its citizens? I guess that’s just to scare us!

  3. It is not in Syria’s interest to have another Sunni-Shiaa war on their doors, the Sunni majority might wake up & challenge the regime.

  4. I agree with Kheir… plus, as he noted, only when the Syrian begins giving the time of day to its citizens at home will its concerns about the Syrians in Lebanon (or elsewhere for that matter) have some validity.

  5. I sense that there is something cooking somewhere somehow! I don’t know what!!!

Iran: Condelezza Rice is using the same tactics that was used on the Soviet Union on Iran. By the way, her speciality is the Soviet Union. The US wants to outspend Iran (Iran can barely have enough gas for its cars) and keep Iran on alert until it breaks down! Yes, Iran will have a nuclear bomb (Soviet Union had thousands of them) but will not dare use it because it knows that Iran will be a waste land for a million years!

Syria: My feeling on Syria is that Bashar Asad prentending that he wants to create a front like the one that Hizullah created in South Lebanon but he is bluffing! He knows that Israel will hit HIS palace and Asad family is gone for ever!

Israel: Barak is in control of the IDF and its miltary is itching for a rematch with Hizbullah and are ready to hit Syria if it interfers! Asad will never interfere. He just talks!!!

Lebanon: There are a lot of uncertainity between now and the presidential election. HA is trying to create facts on the ground but making the “other than Shia3a” leave Lebanon so the next election will get them more power. They will never be a majority but may get them more MPs. Unless it will backfire and the “other than Shi3a” are sick of Hizb-Iran and will vote them out!

Summary: ANY thing may ignite a war in the Region but the window will close by end of August! But you never know. The 1973 war started in October!

  6. GK, for the first time, I wish Israel hits an Arab country. Can they please wipe out Bashar’s Presidential Palace and the crapy Syrian Army? Or does Israel still see the Syrian regime as a lesser evil?

  7. Where was Syria last summer? We did not see the Syrian Airforce defending the Dahyeh and the south? Why Nasrallah did not ask for their direct help? Does Lebanon have to be a permanent battleground of proxies? We are fed up! Yes, the Shiaa need to be better represented in the government; however, they should disarm and stop getting orders from Syrian and Iran. We are fed up from that Arabist & Islamist retoric that is recuperated every time to justify lawlessness. Enough! Look at the palestinians, they missed a golden opportunity to build a state in the West Bank and Ghazza thanks to Hamas terrorism & OLP corruption. Those Idiots of Hezballah abducted the Israeli soldiers while Israel was pounding Ghazza. What did they expect? Result, 1200 people killed…Can’t Lebanon live in peace?

  8. Its clear that Lebanon is heading in danger zone. Probably a clash will be avoided now because March 14 will step back and confirm Aoun as president. However in the horizon the clash between sunni and shia is inevitable and will take place maybe in a year or more. Now is like the time in lebanon of 1969 till 1974, its pre-war time.

  9. What we really need is a group of Lebanese drag queens at the border to give each of the departing students a good bye kiss.

  10. The big question is when will the saudis carve out a space for the palis along the coast. Israel is not going to give up Judea and Samaria (the west bank)

  11. Zionist, if you want peace you have to give up land DIDN’T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YET? Otherwise, one day, millions of islamists will walk toward Israel & crush you tiny little racist state and there won’t be moderate Arabs like me to retain them.

  12. “crush you tiny little racist state and there won’t be moderate Arabs like me to retain them.”

Racist state…that’s compared to the tolerant islamic states LOL. Thanks for the laugh.

  13. kheireddine,

do we get in return all the lands which got stolen from us or where we were made to flee from? Give us then the world, damn it.
Or leave us alone in that shitty desert piece of land.

  14. @Mustapha,

    you’re welcome for the link.

I hope it’s just hollow words and nothing will come out from it.

But Lebanon is weak because of it’s different ideas and opinions. It’s weak because there is no unity. And foreign powers might abuse this weakness.

  15. Suzanne, there is a majority of Palestians in the West bank & Ghaza, how about helping them to build a state in order to have a long lasting peace between Arabs & Jews? That is what the moderate Arabs are asking, Don’t expect us to accept another deportation. For the 750,000 jews who fled or were expelled from Arab countries, you were already compensated yourselves by creating the state of Israel on Palestinian land & 750,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled in 1948.

  16. Kheireddine: yea, and Jordan took most of this Palestinian land.

Nevertheless, I’m pro a two-state solution. Though Jews should be able to live in “Palestine” (i do this, because it does not exist yet and I dont want to confuse anyone), just as non-Jews are able to live in Israel (mind you, on every 5 Israeli there is 1 non-Jew!).

Mid-east can be so cool. If only people learn how to deal with each other :)

  17. yes Suzanne, I agree with you, and hopefully there will be cooperation between Arab & Jews and maybe ,who knows, a federal state of Israel-Palestine.
