Congratulations to our Men (and women?) in uniform who have just been declared victorious.
Here is a video that was just released by the Army in the Kalam El Nas show, with previously unseen footage of the war:
Hello, my name is Mustapha and I blog in The Beirut Spring about Lebanese society and politics. I started in February 2005 after the killing of P.M. Rafik Hariri.

Congratulations……..
To all our warriors who fought and died for all the Lebanese people in Lebanon and abroad.
RIP to the ones that fell, you will be remembered in our history books as the tip of the real Lebanese resistance. Our brothers who fell will not be forgotten and the warriors who have survived will, I’m sure, thank god for the practice they have received when Syria sends us more of there terrorists to die in Lebanon.
Note to Mr. Assad:
Until we see peace and throw rice in victory, until Syria stops killing Lebanese citizens in cold blood, Unless you convince yourselves that Lebanon is NOT yours, we will fight you one battle at a time and we WILL win.
Jalal
Two consecutive years, we face a 33-day war. Two different enemies, even though they themselves are enemies of each other as well.
Middle East politics Baffles western politicians and Historians.
and we didn’t even go into the discussion of Syria yet.
Mustapha,
Di the army actually enter the camp or is the footage only of hte outskirts. I would like to think that the army will go in and basically re-claim it for lebanon.
To all the boys who have fallen in combat..may you rest in peace and may your blood eternaly refresh the soil of this land and keep it free.
Ayesh Lubnan!!
Shunkleash,
They have control of the “new camp” and they’re planning to stick around for a while..
well said Jalal
Congratulations
“The real Lebanese resistance”
Yeehaw..it’s a great day for all Lebanese. Now let’s move on to disarming all weapons. Any militia that wishes to defend lebanese land, should join the army. Time to send Bashar a few bombs too (sorry I couldn’t help it, giddy up) :)
I hope this means that this piece of real estate will be reclaimed “Lebanese Territory”, and that after the ritual libations it will be redeveloped FOR Tripolitans and Lebanese, NOT for ANYONE else, and certainly not for yet another hornets’ nest!
I have a question for BS / Mustapha / anyone
Why so happy over this ?
who were they a proxy of ?
what did they do to deserve this?
why do you feel “victorious”?
Zionist,
Why be so happy over this?
Well it’s a well deserved and long awaited victory for the Lebanese Armed Forces, which is excellent for the morale of the troops and the whole institution.
Further it will serve as an example for other like minded groups that Lebanon is willing and capable of retaliating in the face of aggression. It also serves to support the legitimacy of the Lebanese Army as a body capable of providing security to the population; which is a sticking point and argument oft used by groups like Hizbollah.
Who were they a proxy of?
That’s painfully obvious….Syria and maybe, just maybe Iran. For instance it is claimed that Fatah al Islam (FIS) broke away from the Syrian backed Fatah Al Intifada (FIN). Do you not find it surprising that FIS took over all the offices, personnel, and positions of FIN without shedding a drop of blood? It’s not like FIN are a bunch of hippies who would avoid confrontation at any cost, especially if they’re turf has been taken over.
If you need any more information I would suggest you listen to Samir Geagea’s press conference a few weeks ago when he convincingly linked Shaker Al Abssi to Syria.
What did they do deserve this?
Chronologically:
1. They claimed responsibility of the bus bombings at Ain Alaq which claimed the lives of 12 innocent civilians.
2. They robbed a bank and when the internal security forces attempted to arrest suspects they retaliated by butchering and beheading 30 unsuspecting Lebanese soldiers; a brutal and unprovoked attack.
3. Evidence has showed that they were planning on blowing up a tunnel which connects Tripoli to Beirut in order to isolate the North and attempt to impose Islamic rule.
4. Achrafieh, Verdun, Aley bombings.
5. etc. etc. etc.
Why do you feel “victorious”?
Maybe you should try to figure this one out by yourself son.
It’s like Arabs have no morality. It’s OK for Arabs to indescriminatly bomb civilian houses to stop a couple of terrorists who robbed a bank.
BUT, when Israel bombs houses used to shoot missiles on Israeli civilians, ARABS ARE SHOCKED!
I’m not fooled by fake outrage.
PS what about those “orphans” in Qana? They have no relatives to confirm they actually lived in Qana and died on that day and not before? Right?
Is any Arab still fooled by it?
Although this victory awakens in me the old good emotions of pride, grandeur and glory, I cannot conceal a feeling of ‘malaise’ and melancholy. maybe because I am gifted with a sixth sense. My instincts have always been right, I developped an acute foresight during the shelter years during the lebanese war because there was no room for common sense and logic all foreign brain mechanics to the middle east crisis in general and to the lebanese saga in particular. That’s why my Instincts were my driving force until today. Here I am following the events at Nahr-el-bared folding with an apparent victory of our men in uniforms and after 72 martyrs who died defending our sovereignty and independence, my instincts are awakened to a rather sordid reality. The Lebanese Army will pay a very high price for its victory. I am hopefull no celebrations will be carried out in lebanon or with lebanese comunities in the dispora, because the celebrations will very soon turn to mourning and sorrow. I have a terrible feeling that this well deserved victory will only prepare the ground for unexpected horrible events that will rob us again from swift’n short memories of Glory! I don’t want to sound like an old cynical and pessimistic fellow but I am sorry guys it is my guts feelings. I am going to drink to the victory today but i will not get smashed like the old good days, i will stay sober and be ready for the unfortunate events that will follow!
Dory
To my Israeli friends,
I admire your thoughts on this situation. I would like to share a few thoughts of my own…….
May many a bomb, missile, nuke and coconut rain upon you indiscriminately until the sea greats you all with open arms.
Thank you
Jalal
Thanks to those who answered my question
And to Jalal - stop wishing for Israels destruction
and start getting ready for a trully bright future
you have the same mentality as those who cut heads off during a bank robbery
Dory and others,
I salute our fallen and we need to build on this politically and militarily.
Though frankly reading what Murr is saying and other news: victory, but fighters are still in the camp including Abu Abssi, makes me WAY WAY less excited than you guys for now.
As usual with the Leb gvmnt we have no fucking idea what really happened.
What victory? You must be kidding me.
“they are on the run” and “they re-integrated within the camps” - these are not signs of victory.
Where are the militants leaving the camps, their hands on their head, having surrendered? I don’t see that. They fled or went into hiding, so they can strike another day.
Kabbro aaelkon.
The Zionist,
Why? If anything you should rejoice as well. It is win-win situation for Israel.
On one hand LAF becomes strong enough to prevent things like last summer war. LAF is not there yet but it is step in the right direction.
On another hand if there ever going to be another war between Israel and Lebanon Israel will finally get to fight real army. And of cause you understand that it greatly simplifies things, especially from PR/PC BS prospective.
Jalal,
My congrats to LAF and to you.
I am sure you did not meant what you said. I am sure you just lost it for a moment.
Libano et al
Kabbro aaelkon. INDEED
Unconditional surrender but “negotiations” are still going on(???).
Abu Abssi is still in there, but LAF operations have stopped?
Looks like another great Arab victory, like the one last summer.
I DON’T MEAN TO DISPARAGE THE FALLEN WHO ARE OUR TRUE HEROES, but Army command, intelligence and Murr/Saniora/Hariri have a lot to answer to.
Hi Jalal (and everyone)
Its funny - I asked why this happened - because I had no idea ?
This group or situation hit fast and hard.
It was very unusual - out of place
At some point - the Umah will have to create a state for the philistines either from Gaza to egypt..
…or somewhere in Arabia (currently - saudi controlled)
Maybe Jordan (when the king dies in 30 years)
Maybe we all make freinds - tear down all borders - and become a very large superpower called the Abrahamic Union (AU)
“If you will it…is is no dream” (.Hertzl)
I’m gonna go ahead and agree with Josey Wales on this one. This declaration of victory is premature. The army’s not even entered the old camp. The leaders of FAI are still at large. Not a whole lot has been accomplished here, if you really look at it from a numbers perspective, and put aside the pride of seeing our army in action.
Indeed this is a victory for the Lebanese Army. There is also a domestic victory in that groups that have fought the army for decades (PSP,LF ETC), used to line up soldiers on the wall and commit attrocities, the same groups that were shooting on the army only last January, now must at least publicly, show support for the Lebanese army. It’s also a victory in that the government of Lebanon, which neglected the army for 2 years, and even lobbied to stop foreign support for what it considered to be a non-loyal, shiite/christian force, has also been forced to step back, and the international community can now support the army logistically.
What are you talking abou Jihad Haddad ?
Really nonsense… First of all, you claim that the LF and PSP fought the army during civil war, while you fail to mention that a rogue and insane general by the name of Michel Aoun hijacked this insitution (the army) and made it his own militia, the fled with his underwear to France leaving its soldiers to their fate…
About the government not supporting the army, this is also nonsense. The only people who put red lines for the army are Hizballah and the retarded oppostion Incorporated. The government was the first to support the army. In fact, the only people who lose because of a stronger army is the only armed militia until present day: the Hizbies. So really, get your facts straight and then lecture us…
True Patriot, The PSP have been fighting the Lebanese army way before Aoun was commander - read your history books man. Also the LF and others fired at the army only last January - stop pretending you don’t know that.
Also, if you want to ignore the reality that the government didn’t trust the loyalty of the army, and instead worked on beefing up the internal security forces - then you can stick your head in the sand as much as as you like.
By the way, no Lebanese will loose with a stronger army.
Isn’t it amazing by the way, that those who went from pro-syrian to anti-syrian quicker than a bullet, have now gone from anti-army to pro-army faster than a speeding locamotive.
Do you think truepatriot that the average person’s brain forget’s as quick as that of a member of the Bristol gathering of feudal/war/money lords?
Mustapha,
Too soon, far too soon. Let us not forget that it was Mr. Elias Michel Murr, epoux Lahoud, who announced it. AS Enee was quoted; “Timeo Danaos et Dona Ferentes”…
Beware of Murrs bearing gifts.
Jihad Haddad,
I really fail to see how a more potent Internal security force could harm any Lebanese, unless the ISF is depicted in the sectarian fashion the opposition paints them with. After all, the opposition do have their own ISF who’s guarding their tents in dowtown Beirut, aren’t they ?
During the civil war, there was no army. The institution ceased to exist and was spit up and controlled by various factions .
Hmmm. I do understand where your pride for your army comes from - you are sick and tired of those guys who hijacked your country - but I also think that the celebrations are a bit misplaced. Those people, whether they surrendered or not, are not the leaders. And leaders continue to have power because they have Shia masses dependent on them economically.
So my question is - has the Lebanese government been trying to develop the South recently and give people jobs that are not courtesy of Hizballah? It’s not a rhetoric question - I am curious to know.
Guy, do you understand who the army is fighting in the camp?, and the difference between the Salafi’s and Lebanon’s Shia?
Jihad - yes and no. I understand that the guys in the camps are not Shia. But do you think it is wrong to assume that their leaders and leaders of Hizballah (and I don’t mean Nasrallah) are one and the same? If you think I’m wrong, then why do you think Hiz didn’t use this as an opportune moment to show how pro-Lebanese they are? It wouldn’t have cost them anything. The fact that they didn’t leads me to believe that they are part and parcel of the same Iranian-Syrian enterprise. What do you think?
Grats Lebanon. You really have the army with normal commanders who can make decissions.
and you’re lucky couse you can do what must be done without asking permissions from other countries, without even thinking of their reaction..
