Lebanese ISF Gets Tough On Hezbollah

News Analysis

It seems the Lebanese Internal Security Forces are bent on arresting the Hezbollah members who had previously detained their colleagues.

Fanfare or real determination?

According to Annahar, the incident happened when the ISF were trying to track down 4 outlaws who took refuge in Dahieh. This then turned into a conflict with Hezbollah which resulted in the HA Militias rounding up the ISF members, disarming them and interrogating them for one hour.

Annahar’s “high ranking security source” revealed that Hezbollah eventually collaborated with the ISF to arrest the 4 men.

The source then gave away the juicy part:

وأكد “ان الاعتداء على عناصر الدورية والمسؤولين عنه سيبقى قيد المتابعة بغية توقيف المتورطين فيه، ولا رجوع ابداً عن هذا الامر.
فاذا تعاونت اللجنة الامنية في الحزب مع السلطة فلا مشكلة والا فان قوى الأمن لن تتراجع عن توقيف المسؤولين عن خطف الدورية وهو أمر مطلوب من قوى الأمن والقضاء العسكري”.

Translation & Emphasis mine:

[the source] confirmed that the assault on the ISF patrol and those responsible for it will be pursued in order to arrest those envolved, and there will be no backing down from that objective. If the security committee of Hezbollah cooperates with the authorities, then no problem. If it didn’t, the security forces will not back down from arresting those responsible, which would be the duty of the security forces and the military judiciary.

Tough words indeed. It remains to be seen whether they have the balls to actually do it.

  1. Until further notice the security apparatus and the Military Judiciary etc are a joke.

The should STFU and act. Then they can talk.

  3. Still, part of me wants to believe that words DO matter, and in this case the tone sounds a wee bit bolder and strong-willed… it beats anytime the customary “this mu2aawamé, khalo can’t touch!” We’ll see anyway!

  4. I meant to say “this is mu2aawamé…”

  5. Well guys, I certainly do believe that there is a difference in tone that can only signal a stronger backbone.

But I agree with zero. Hezbollah will bend with the wind to avoid an all-out gaza style escalation..

  6. this what happends when there is a state within a state. Some people will be under the law, others will be under selective laws while others become above the law and ecide where / when the law will be applied. If this continues than in less than 15 years from now the Iranian overseer will be running lebanon for dahieh instaed of 3anjar. Lebanese should take a firmer stand or the syrian tyrannt will be replaced by a persian tyrannt.

  8. You did not mention that apparently the 3 lebanese were kidnapped when they “entered” the Hezbullah forbidden area. Where only Zibulllah gangs can go. So you still have within Beirut these State within the state areas held by the thugs… Time to uproot them. No more discussions…
