The FPM & Marada Will "Deal Positively" With By-elections

The pickle in which the opposition is stuck is well illustrated in this paragraph in the Iran-friendly daily Al-Akhbar:

?????? ?????? ??? ?? 14 ????< ???? ????? ????????? ?? ????? ??? ??? ???????? ??? ????? ???????? ???? ???? ???????? ????????? ????????? ???? ???? ????? ?????? ??? ??????? ?? ????? ?«????????» ?? ?????? ???? ????? ????? ?? ?????? ?????? ???? ??«???????» ??? ???? ??????? ??????? ???????? ?? ????? ?????????? ???????? ???????? ?? ??? ?????? ???? ??? ???????? ???? ?????. ?????? ??? ?????? ???? ??? ??? ??????? ?? ????? ???????? ???? ??????? ????????? ???? ??? ?? ????? ???????. ?????? ??? ??????? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?????? ???????? ???? ???? ????? ?????????? ?? ???? ??? ????

Still Lahoud, who sometimes gives the impression he’s living on a different planet, will not “allow the illegal government of breaking the constitution”.

Meanwhile, guess who the leftist daily Assafir is blaming?

Yes, the great satan must be the driving force behind democratically electing representatives to replace those savagely killed..

  1. They have little choice but to “deal positively” with it. Marada has no voters in those regions, and FPM has no voters left to issue a good challenge to Gemayel.

And the reaction can be very bad if they are seen to side with the killers too closely.

  2. Is it taboo to ask in public why the opposition politicians are not being assassinated?

  3. Jeha,

I think the FPM can easily muster 40% of the christian vote. In fact, it is being argued that Aoun is excited about this opportunity to flex his muscles..

    Another someone,
Many march 14 leaders are doing just that. Geagea said yesterday that “we should be the ones called the opposition, because as far as I’m concerned we are the ones being killed. I don’t see anyone from the March8 people being killed”,
But everyone qualifies by saying: b3eed alf shar 3alayyon.
At least M14 are keeping the upper moral hand..

  4. For the benefit of the doubt, most Christians admit they’re not that hateful towards Muslims, in other words, the majority of Christians would support the FPM instead of the LF.

    Any Muslim should be relieved.

  5. Al-Fonse,

The last time I checked, the FPM’s forums were filled with anti-sunnite hatred that was so disgusting i stopped reading.

I don’t know what my sect has done to you to deserve all this hate, but I know one thing: the FPM are NOT behaving like the moderate Christians.

Also, judging by the leaderships and media of both LF and FPM, LF comes across as far more tolerant and accepting of the other. (I can’t forget when the tayyar’s website reproduced the “I Love Life” logo using the Blue as the color of the heart, to illustrate their paranoid premise that the Sunnis want to take over the country)

The FPM’s hatefulness and constant anger is simply beyond my understanding. I pity the days I used to be a Aoun Supporter

  6. Mustapha, please stop calling Assafir a leftist paper, it gives the impression that leftists are outside the March 14 camp. Most leftists consider Assafir, AlAkhbar, and Addiyar as equals. Unless you are talking about the Communist party, ofcourse. Assafir is an Arab Nationalist newspaper (Nasser-style), more than a leftist one.
    Cheers.

  7. My bad abutakla, you’re completely right :)

You know, the democratic left should have a louder voice, what have you been doing these days?

  8. Mustapha

have you read these remarks by Farid el Khazan to Asharq el-Awsat?

_____ Farid al Khazan deputy of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) Parliamentary bloc (headed General Michel Aoun) told Asharq Al-Awsat, “I reject the argument [made by hezballah] that establishing the tribunal will destroy the country’s stability. We cannot make that argument; it is neither logical nor humane. There are those who committed murder and Lebanon is witnessing a dire situation. How can it be argued that the tribunal will threaten stability? Why have all the events that have taken place in Lebanon happened?”

He added, “There can be no sanctioning in legal issues to choose what we want to keep within the legal framework and what might be best to overlook so that we do not disrupt the situation. If we follow this approach, the county will be lost. There are officials and citizens who have a right to know the truth behind these crimes. It cannot be said that this tribunal will annihilate civil peace. In our present predicament here are smaller issues causing larger problems. How can the tribunal be the issue when all its findings remain hidden and in the hands of Serge Brammertz, Deputy Prosecutor for Investigations of the International Criminal Court, who will need a year to submit his hypothetical report.” ___
