Here’s this curious news I just read on Naharnet:

Hizbullah gunmen kidnapped three policemen in south Beirut, stripped them of their weapons, interrogated them and then set them free.

    It is a dangerous sign when you operate outside the boundaries of the law. What HA did is unlawful. If they are “Lebanese” patriots as they claim to be, what not do something about it from within the constitutional institutions like any other civilized party would do, instead of circumnavigating the law, and taking matters in you own hand. That is the definition of a militia, not a resistance. So, revise your opinion on this matter for the sake of Lebanon.

    The French resistance disarmed after the ”Libération”; not the Hezbollah, due to the weakness of the Lebanese state & the support it popular base which fears being alienated again by central Lebanon. Furthermore, Syria left Hezbollah armed after year 2000 because of the financial support it gets from Iran & in order to use it as a Trojan horse.

    You’ve got to decide wether you’re american or with hizballah, because I don’t know if you’ve noticed, the country you’ve chosen to live in counts hizballah as an enemy. You can’t live there an use all that law and civilization, then say a theocracy/militia rule is OK for the Lebanese.

It is indeed time to call a ’spade a spade’ – Hezbo is holding Lebanon hostage, and everyone is scared they will turn their weapons on the citizens. They say they won’t – and then Nas makes statements about ‘civil war’ and ‘cutting off hands’. Everyone understands the point. When thugs ‘arrest’ the State Police, disarm & interrogate them – they are an enemy of the state, there is really nothing else you can call them. It’s time to come out in the open with it.

    If anybody recalls the kidnapping in gaza of an idf soldier last summer and how a similar operation was followed by hizbullah on the blue line, will Undoubtedly understand that this is not a twist of fate. Hamas and hizbullah with their close ties to iran and Syria are plotting against the whole region and make the balance of power tip to their favor. Since the objective of Nahr el bared’s battle was not fulfilled in Lebanon it was necessary for Hamas to tip the balance and score a victory! Furthermore, Hizbullah will make sure after threatening the lebanese army and drawing red lines, that no victory is possible on the lebanes front, and a similar operation will take place to furthern weeken the army for an eventual hizbullah take over. Watch the coming events, and you will understand.

    It brings another brick toward a civil war.

    For sometimes we have read articles on ISF accused to become a sunnit milicia. Maybe the hezbollah is considering it like that. But the lebanese army is a different case as 40 to 60% of its soldiers are shia, which is not the case of the ISF

    However the lebanese law must be exercized on all the lebanese territory, this includes the Hezbollah places but also the palestinians camps.

    I am afraid to say that HA is testing the water and may follow Hamas style and take over some areas (like the airport). But it is different in Lebanon from Gaza because there are more than just 2 factions, somehow a Lebanese Army (not that strong, but still there is one), and all are armed.

    i actually dont have a lebanese citizenship, thanks to the corruptness of the govt, our names were somehow “erased” off the registry, and my family has spent over $100,000 over the past 15 years paying into the corruptness of the lawyers and system over there.

    If you learned one thing from the United States, whenever “any militia” can have “its own area”, there can be no country. By the way, did you know that the Hariri whom you seem to hold a big grudge against, tried to build the first university in the south, in kfar-falous?

    here, I really don’t see why we should be the only ones to pay all the time. We have no occupied land any more and Syria, Jordan and Egypt do. They are all living prospering and we are the only ones paying. Why doesn’t Syria fight its own war for the Golan? I suppose one could say why should they when they can pay Lebanese to fight it for them!

    We have one major failing: we are not strong enough to impose our will. We should have virtual dictatorships like all the other countries of the region and a very strong and ruthless deuxieme bureau (as in the time of Pres. Chehab) that knows exactly where the troublemakers are! That is the only way that it can work here.

    Ultra-successful Dubai does not work with elections – it does not have elections or ask the opinion of anyone and Syria, as we all know, had elections recently with just one candidate. We should learn from the successes around us!

    thanks, umm kais. i think that alot of people that havent been here to the states…especially havent grown up here in the states, dont understand. just as we dont truly understand other cultures. although in a way, we are every culture…you know “the great melting pot”. i live right in the middle of the US and as far as i can drive in a day, i’m still in the US or southern canada. so, overall, the cultures and languages dont change. we are like the song…sea to shining sea. it would take 2 days driving to get to mexico before we would truly encounter another culture, unlike europe/asia/ middle east where you can go only an hour or 2 and be in a whole nother world. sure we do have the “cowboy ” mentality where we just say “lets do it!” and go. often not thinking about all the details. i definately fit into that catagory with decisions i make. my wife is just the opposite, she thinks everything out WAY too much to the point where it paralyzes her. my dad’s quote while i was growing up was “dont just sit there, do something. if it turns out wrong…FIX IT.” which is definately american. my point being that i am truly american and believe in what america truly stands for, but also i am trying to be a citizen of the world and learning about the rest of the world and hopefully help the rest of the world in some way. even if its just some words on a blog here and there. thanks for the space, mustapha. i pray lebanon and the rest of the M.E. will truly have freedom and democracy.
