Good Idea

A Lebanese Majority MP just suggested on a TV program an idea that deserves the attention of the opposition and some debate here:

If the opposition is serious about not wanting to benefit from the assassinations, if the opposition wants to prevent future assassinations from happening and if the opposition wants to start building confidence, the simple idea is the following:

For every majority MP that is killed, an opposition MP would offer his resignation. This way, the Lebanese people will believe, by action, not words, that the opposition is not secretly encouraging the assassinations.

On the other hand, if the opposition refuses this suggestion, we’ll understand where the NBN anchor is coming from.

5 Hours have passed and NBN has still not posted an apology on its homepage.

Berri’s NBN is dealing with this very lightly and thinks it can just get away with half-hearted measures. (For example, I still don’t have any official confirmation that the woman was dismissed)

If we can all use their contact-us page to shame them, perhaps they will show a bit more contrition.

(To understand what this is about, please check the previous post)

Sawsan Al-Abtah Darwish was Fired According to NBN:

In a statement, the station said it had fired the anchor and colleague and apologized for “an unintentional mistake.” The statement said, “the comments made do not represent the station in any way.

The NBN’s representative also said: “firing of the anchor should be enough to quell any outrage her comments caused.”

Is it enough?

Scandal: Video of Opposition News Anchor Gloating At The Death Of Walid Eido.

The News anchor didn’t notice she left the mic on: “What took them so long to kill him?” she asked her “hajj” co-worker as they both giggled.
According to March14‘s website, she also said “I wonder if Ahmad Fatfat is next” and “How many are left before we get rid of the majority?”, but that was not evident from the video.

Unfortunately, her schadenfreude is secretely shared by many pro-Syrian opposition members who are all too happy their opponents are being eliminated one by one. Shame on them.

Unless Nabih Berri, the owner of the TV station (and supposedly a “moderate” in the March 8 opposition) immediately dismisses her, we will all conclude that his position is the same as hers.
