The veteran Saudi commentator sees that unleashing iraqi-style Alqaeda Islamists to scuttle the Hariri Tribunal means that the Tribunal is now about much more than finding Hariri’s killer. It’s about finding Bin Laden himself.

Mustapha,
I have read the column by Mr Rashed at least four times in order to make sure that I understand what he is trying to get across.
For one reason or another I fail to see where you come up with your interpretation that the Tribunal is about much more than the Hariri affair. He never says that or even imply it.
In my opinion, all what he is saying is that by unleashing a group that is affiliated with the alQaeda then the struggle to eliminate that group becomes of utmost importance to the international community i.e. those who have used Fath AlIslam in order to obstruct the formation of the international tribunal have miscalculated by having bit more than they can chew. The real intention was to create chaos in Lebanon through the use of these gangs but Lebanon and the international community have frustrated these plans since they will not tolerate the mere existence of an alQaeda affiliated group. So yes, the spot light has been shifted from the international tribunal in order to eliminate the new tumor before it spreads but by no way does that mean that the tribunal itself is no longer about the Hariri affair.
