Orange Twist

Lebanese politics

Question: how can General Aoun justify his position which supports the Army but denounces the Government?

Easy: Just announce (audio)that the “Army was backstabbed because the secret services (which answer to the ministry of interior) did not share their intelligence with it” (An allegation that the minister of defense -defense, not interior- strongly denied)

Is there any place I can read Aoun’s comments in English? I’ve been wondering how March 8 would respond to all this.

This is the time for all of us to unite; not engage in bickering and play politics. Mr Aoun would be a bigger man if he stayed away from such despicable behaviour and took a position of support.

    Shame on him.

I Wish you have mentioned something about the Lebanese Soldiers that we died for a change instead of Shaming this and that ……

So Shame on you for not doing that ……………

And we should always be united , not only this time Heldley……

    Peace

Take it easy on the assumptions Peace. It was a response to a blog entry that dealt with a specific issue not the events of the previous day. Context is the key word here.

Where in my post does it say we must be united only this time? Since we are clearly not united for the time being do you not think that our mutual grievance should bring us together? Or maybe you think we should stay divided and bicker among ourselves for political reasons whilst ignoring the big picture (big picture = people are dying in violent ways).

Again remember the magic word “context”.

Take it easy on the Context Hedley, just trying to be spontaneous

I may not completely agree with Aoun, but you don’t have to get immediately defensive and dismissive every time he speaks about general concerns. A lot of Lebanese are concerned about the way the government is running the country and they have legitimate concerns too….You should also listen to the Opposition in a receptive way, because you might be it in future, who knows…..

Everybody has the right to be in the opposition to the government, nothing personal……….

You clearly missed my point Peace. Again, take it easy on the assumptions and please refrain from generalising my dear. You neither know how I think or react, so don’t make it sound like you do.

    Cheers
