Irresponsible Albalad

Plain Talking

A centrist newspaper takes sensationalism a bit too far.

We are in a very sensitive situation. Everyone, including politicians, is calling for restraint and for reframing the terrible crime as an opportunity to resume dialog.

Enter Albalad, a “family” newspaper, with a gory frontpage image of the two defaced bodies of the victims.

Nothing can explain such irresponsible behavior but sheer commercial opportunism. Albalad should be punished and ashamed for exploiting the blood of the deceased for material gain and for not caring about the consequences such images can have on the tense situation or on the feelings of the victims’ families.

  2. This news should be buried! It is creating chaos and fear in people! It’s the everyday social life that is important, and shouldn’t be jeopardized. We need to look ahead at building and embelling Our country.

  3. That is always the case in Lebanese and Arab news. They always bombard us with gore, they have no respect for human dignity. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Thank you for bringing up this issue Mustapha, as it is easy to dismiss amid all the troubling news.

  4. sheer commercial opportunism
By ten this morning AlBalad couldn’t be found on newsstands in Beirut.

AlBalad also has membership (about one hundered thousand). The ugly front page was on the doorsteps of thousands of Lebanese this morning.

    No warning, nothing.
    Very bad.
