Message From Bashar

An Email from the Syrian President to the American President explaining the “tragic” events in Damascus.

Dear Mr. Bush,

By the time you get this letter, you will have heard about the tragic events that unfolded in Damascus this morning. Just in case you haven’t, here’s what happened: A bunch of Islamic terrorists attempted to attack your embassy in the heart of our capital city. They were shouting religious slogans and they wanted to bomb the premises.

Thankfully, Mr. President, our heroic security forces foiled the operation and killed all four assailants. I am pleased to announce that your diplomats are now all safe and sound.

I know this is an amazing coincidence Mr. Bush, but the way we handled the situation proves, the day after September 11, that this Syrian regime is on your side in the war on terrorism: We are committed to fighting Islamic terrorists the same way you are. I hope you didn’t forget that we are a secualr regime.

Mr. Bush, how about shelving those regime-change plans you have in mind? don’t you think it’s better to talk with us instead of having to deal with the Islamists? Islamists like the ones who attempted to bomb your embassy this morning? (The ones who are all conveniently dead now and can’t be interrogated by your security officers)

Mr. President, those bombings show that we were right all along: Your support for Israel and your foreign policies are making people in the region hate you. Mr. Bush, if things stay this way, every Arab and Moslem will become a militant! Don’t you think it is time Syria got back Lebanon and the Golan heights, and the time for the Brammertz investigation stopped? This way, people in the region will stop hating you and everyone will revert back to their happy, pacific selves.
We can guarantee that.

Mr. Bush, I know that the Syrian public opinion and our intellectual establishment still believe up to this day that September 11 was an American inside job, masterminded by the CIA to advance your own hegemonic plans to rule the world. But heaven forbid that we in Syria get involved in any such fiendish tactics. Our Imagination couldn’t possibly stretch into ordering inside jobs.

You know us well Mr. Bush, theatrics and staged events are not our thing.

Bashar Al Assad,
(Pleading to remain the) President of Syria.

  8. This was the plot of the Syrian Gov’t to win back “favorable views” as you so well put it; how convenient all four were killed and just after Sept 11…conspiracy I tell you, conspiracy…

that last part seems to be almost sarcastic considering last weeks revalation, from bush, about secret prisons.
do you really think the syrians woudn’t have concerns regarding this?

  10. hi mustapha,
I thought that moderation is because of hatred and racist comments.

don’t you see the above comment by
anonymous 12:37 (clueless) as a racist one?
I guess you know what does his comment mean.
It’s directed towards all the syrian not towards a regime.

  11. Did any of the attackers survive? Is there evidence that the attack was planned for a while? Does the govt have any ‘whistle-blowers?’ I thought all govts had those.

A great post, brave too! We in the U.S. have enough to worry about with Bullet Bush in attack mode. We don’t need Assad adding to our woes (anymore than he already does.)

  14. Only a matter of hours until this event like every other terrorist event somehow reads as if an ‘Israeli conspiracy.’

No doubt that at least a few readers might believe that Assad graciously sends you copies of his letters. Maybe this is an excellent opportunity to take names for future reference regarding blog contributors’ credibility;=)

  15. Here we go again, you are barking up the wrong tree ya mustapha. You are already insinuating that it’s a syrian job. Something not even the US did.

If you are capable of thinking that the syrians did it, explain to me why not the mossad ?

    http://www.antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=9693

this rabid anti-syrian onslaught from your part and the nouveau hariri gang on syria needs to stop as it is all based on speculation.

speaking of hariri, all the syrian had to do to get rid of him was to ask him to take a hike and he would go to saudi arabia to chill, they certainly did not need to kill him. However, the israelis on the other hand, attacked lebanon and that would have been much harder for them to do if hariri was alive.

shame on you mustapha and shame on the others for degenerating to that new low. Syria is always gonna share a border with us long after all the others loose interest in the lebanon chessboard.

    Posted by aboul3abed | September 13, 2006, 7:00 am
  16. Aboul3abed,

you said “Syria is always gonna share a border with us”. Doesn’t that apply to Israel Too? or are you one of those pathetic beleivers that Israel will be wiped off the map soon?

    Posted by Hani | September 13, 2006, 8:52 am
  17. Right on the money, Mustapha… And ya Syed Aboul3aded, why would the mossad screw up Syria? The Syrians do it all too well on their own.

unless you believe that the Mossad destroyed Hama, imprisonned Lebanese citizens, killed journalists… It is time we got rid of those “secular” dictators, and built real countries before we are all turned into mini-Irans, wasting oil money on pointless weapons and drems of grandeur.

Even Hfez el Assad recognized that strategic parity with Israel was also educational, economic, and social. Sadly, he was prisoner of his own Alawite mentality to go beyond the speech.

And Syria does not have to “share a border with us”; there is no “us” anymore. At this rate, both “us” and “them” are moving closer to a larger civil war.

We’ll have many Lebanons and Syrias to choose from. We already have a few Iraqs.

Yes the american helped, yes the mossad helps. But they only pushed; we do the rest.

  18. Syria has been a fairly nationalist country and Bashar or not, Syria has its own ambitions and interests. It is not a democracy, which is regrettable, but that does not mean that a 100% democratic Syria would drop its geopolitical aims. Syria is right for example, when it says that the Iskenderun enclave was unjustly transferred by the French to Turkey in 1939. Hell, Britain, the US, France all considered fairly democratic have killed 10,000 Afghans since 2001! How democratic is that? A democratic Syria would be the best option for Lebanon, and in the long term probably a free trade zone encompassing Lebanon, Syria and Jordan is what will happen. Returning to the topic, if Syria engineered this incident to gain favours with the US we will never know. In general, having a dig at Syria is probably tempting for some Lebanese, but I see Israel as being more of a threat to Lebanon than Syria. In the ideal world Israel would like to manipulate or control all of the ruling elites in its neighbourhood

  19. Hey Aboul3abed, right on man! In fact, haven’t you ever thought it was suspicious how they never show us pictures of Ariel Sharon in his hospital anymore? And how him and Bush were elected round about the same time in 2000/2001?

Here’s the thing: Sharon and George Bush are ONE AND THE SAME! That’s right! Flying back and forth across the Atlantic and putting on the disguise was getting too much for him. They faked his stroke so he only has to play one role.

Amazing what these Zionists and their Mossad agents will get up to in their conspiracy to take over the world!

I’m just glad we’ve got vigilant souls like you watching our backs.

  20. But as for your loony conspiracy theory Mustapha:

Four guys with automatic weapons and grenades storming a compound with 2 metre high walls and US Marine guards inside?

Any idiot can see that with odds like this, it was bound to succeed, and would have done so had the Syrians not come to the rescue!

    Posted by Dirk | September 14, 2006, 6:35 am
  21. To Abdoul3abed

“If you are capable of thinking that the syrians did it, explain to me why not the mossad ?”

I’ll pick that one up: WHY WOULD ISRAEL (MOSSAD) WANT TO MAKE ASSAD LOOK GOOD IN THE EYES OF THE US GOVERNMENT BY STAGING SUCH AN ATTACK, HA????

The Bush administration has already put Syria on its axis of evil, so what possible good could the Israelis get out of making Syria look good in the eyes of Washington?

Geez, Abdoul, even a wacky conspiracy theory must have some grain of logic in it….

  22. To Harry, Dirk and Abdoul3abed,

I love your posts, guys! If you keep those stories up we might find out some day that Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah is a Mossad agent named Uzi who started the whole conflict so Israel can get back to Vietnam… sorry, Lebanon.

Posted by The Middle East News Addict | September 14, 2006, 8:58 am
  23. Middle East news addict, good try but you didn’t quite get it right. Truth is, I am a Hezbollah agent! Happy now? I thought that was so obvious from my “stories”! You need to sharpen your powers of deductions my man!

    Posted by harry | September 14, 2006, 9:55 am
  24. Harry

Excuse me, but if anybody needs sharpening their powers of deduction it is you. Otherwise you would have noticed the sarcasem oozing out of those posts (except the I love your posts part. I do, they make me laugh). You are still avoiding the question which I posed to you Dirk and Abdoul which is explaining why should Israel carry forward the attack only to make Syria look good? Is it not kind of counterproductive for them with Syria already being defined by Bush as part of the axis of evil?

What I said in my post is that you keep blaming Israel for all sorts of conspirecies that make no sense (Israel blew the embassy, Israel organized the soldiers kidnaping etc.). It is so propostorous that I felt the urge to ask what’s next? Sheikh Nasrallah a Mossad agent? (try to work on detecting sarcasem…). Even Razi Hamed, spokesperson for the Hamas government, said that Palestinians have been blaming Israel for everything but there are some things (he meant the internal chaos in the PA) that cannot be blamed on Israel. Now if he can say that, I am sure you can too. It just takes a little logical thinking.

Finally, please try and answer the question above regarding Israel, Syria the attack and the axis of evil without trying to beat around the bush…

Posted by The Middle East News Addict | September 14, 2006, 3:25 pm
  25. “In the ideal world Israel would like to manipulate or control all of the ruling elites in its neighbourhood”

Harry, seriously now. I really want to know: what do you think of “the protocols of the elders of Zion”? True or False?

Posted by The Middle East News Addict | September 14, 2006, 3:30 pm
  26. If you keep those stories up we might find out some day that Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah is a Mossad agent named Uzi

Get it right Middle East News Addict, everyone knows that the Mossad agent posing as Nasrallah is called Yossi, not Uzi!

    Posted by Dirk | September 14, 2006, 9:56 pm
  27. dirk

Finally a truly hilarious response. Almost as funny as the one that claims that Israelis have staged the attack on the US embassy in Damascus in order to get Syria out of Bush’s “axis of evil”…
