I know of several of my friends who were very commited members of the FPM, and who gave a good part of their lives to the General. Some paid very high prices for their beliefs, but they didn’t care, since it was the principles that coutned! Today those same friends are no longer part of the FPM. I am not saying they joined other parties, I think they are now independant, and actually hope that the leadership will understand the message they’re trying to give, and hope that the General comes back to his senses.

besides, the FPM-hezb document doesn’t explain how and when Aoun intends to disarm the Hezb. (so how do you ask others not to “fear” this so vague alliance)

Hi again. I like the fact that this conversation is improving, and we might reach a point, not necessarly a solution point but at least of mutual understanding.

Before replying to the posts, i would like to precise that both Hassan Nesrallah and General precised that this was not an alliance this was just a conversation between two parties which was, for the first time in lebanese history, written down in ink. I know this “rapprochement” will cause Hezballah to back us in elections, we are not denying this, but this is still not an alliance…the proof, this paper is being presented to many leaders as previously mentioned. Ghassan Tweini called the General to completely back this paper, we both agree that a man like Ghassan Tweini is not joining the alliance as well.

To “sisco”, I agree that the paper was a bit vague about periods, or methods of disarmement. However you understand that this is only a first step and it is a pretty big one to start with. The least it did, is seperate the arms from the whole middle eastern conflict. A lot can be reached if you use this paper to go further on, to another paper, maybe with other parties present in the government and thus give it more legitimacy.

Amnesty International is saying that most of the Syrians arressted for the riot in Ashrafieh were not even present at the location during the time of the riot…Shu shabeb, let’s all scream together now: GO FM GO!

The Bristol was ok with Lahoud, meeting him weekly in the government and his resignation was just part of a whole package, suddenly after Hariri met Bush, the presidency came a priority, not just a priority, it became the next target, no one is talking about the investigation, no one is talking about drawing the borders with Syria, no one is talking about Syria seriously (they are just using the slogans without anything serious), no one is talking about the assassinations, on the contrary, those who were hiding in the mountains are now on daily moves. Hariri is back and moving around, Geagea is spending most of his time outside Arz, Jomblat is in Beirut and all the rest are much less cautious now comparing their situation to prior Hariri Bush meeting.

It’s obvious that Hariri took the green light from Bush to remove Lahoud, and replace him with anyone he wants (USA sold the presidency to Hariri and will not interfere in the names, it’s up to Hariri to decide the replacement, most probably (based on my analysis) Bush agreed with Hariri that the next president shouldn’t be GMA)

Bush didn’t give the presidency to Hariri for free, and looking at the enthusiasm of both Walid Jomblat and Samir Geagea who both have the dream of federalism since long time ago, and looking at the sudden attacks on Hezbollah’s weapons without talking anything about the Palestinians’ weapons, knowing that Hezbollah will no way under any circumstances accept the naturalization of the Palestinians and will even use it’s weapon to prevent it, so as long as Hezbollah has weapons, naturalization of the Palestinians is impossible.

In case the Palestinians were naturalized, Christians will become a minority, and the balance will be completely in favor of the Muslims, Palestinians are Sunnis same like Hariri. This will leave the Christians with no choice other than Federalism, Jomblat will finally have the Druzistan in the mountains, and Geagea will have the Maronistan.

The remaining part of Lebanon will be divided between Shiaa and Sunna.

To achieve all this, they should disarm Hezbollah and they need a president who will agree on the naturalization of the Palestinians, the Bristol gathering has a huge list of Maronites who will agree on anything in exchange of the presidency. Some of them even favor the federalism.

Removing Lahoud is the first step, then replacing him with anyone of the Bristol group is almost a done deal, after that they will move on toward disarming Hezbollah, once Hezbollah is disarmed and the president is in Hariri’s pocket, the majority of the parliament and the two third of the government is already in his pocket, then Hariri is in full control and no one will stand in his way, he can naturalize the Palestinians without any problems.

All this are based on my personal analysis, especially seeing Jomblat and Geagea using all kind of weapons against Hezbollah, Geagea began his attacks on Hezbollah the same time when Hariri was meeting Bush, and Geagea is concentrating on the Christians’ feelings, Christians are not in love with Hezbollah’s weapons and brainwashing them on the media is not a hard thing, Geagea is doing that perfectly, and looking at the “propaganda” used by his followers (mass mails, SMS jokes, many websites and reports) all concentrating on “Hezbollah and the danger of Hezbollah on the Christians” and portraying GMA and FPM as traitors to Christianity because of the agreement between FPM and Hezbollah.

What they were lacking was the popular support behind them, specially the “Christian” support, that’s why they needed something big like the 14 February gathering, Future movement, PSP and Jameha Islemiye didn’t use their flags, only the Lebanese Forces used their flags, this was a trick to show the presence of the Christians.

Right now everything is working perfectly to Hariri, one of the problems is GMA and his popularity, specially among the Christians, GMA is a huge obstacle, he will not compromise and will fight till the last moment, but what GMA has is the people, nothing more nothing less, damaging his popularity is the only way to remove GMA from their way, but they know that targeting him will only raise his popularity, that’s why Jomblat is being “nice” with GMA, Hariri is trying all his best to ignore GMA in his speeches, Geagea is also being nice in public when talking about GMA, but they are all using the media they own to do the job, the slogans they are brainwashing the people with are “GMA and the Chair” “GMA dealing with Hezbollah to get the presidency” “GMA allying with Syria and Iran” “GMA wants the chair and will protect Lahoud until he guaranties the presidency to himself” and many other slogans we keep reading and hearing in the media on daily basis. All those slogans will hurt GMA’s image, especially among the Christians.

Conclusion based on the timeline:

- Presidency was not a priority
- Saad Hariri meets Bush
- Presidency becomes the number one priority, Hezbollah’s weapons becomes the second priority while no one talking about the Palestinians’ weapons, concentrating on hurting GMA’s popularity in order to elect someone else as president without having any problems with the Christian street.

If you have no better arguments than to say that GMA is a Syrian/Iranian ally, then I am sorry to tell you that that totally contradicts your theory of him being “after the presidency”.

This image is symbolic of Sunni discomfort at a possible alliance of Shiites and christians in Lebanon. You can try and inter-twine it with current political issues, but as I view the image, it is very obvious that sectarian tendencies are very prevelant in your blog.

The problem is not with Aoun becoming President, even though he is by far the best candidate. I can assure you, from a personal standpoint, he would rather retire from direct daily political life and spend time with his grandchildren and nursing his plants and vegetables. He can easily become a father, mentor and a reference to all other politicians and look really good as “the savior” in the eyes of all Lebanese.

The problem is that we have deep suspicions regarding the intentions of the parliamentary majority ever since they tried to isolate Aoun and FPM right after the Syrians withdrew. Just look how they excluded him from their alliance in the elections and when they formed the government. Why do they want him out at any cost, even at the cost of instability in the country? Why do they want to exclude the best candidate by far and are willing to accept any mediocre candidate just to avoid having him in the Presidency. Why is the present government willing to sacrifice having the support of 1/3 of the population who gave Aoun a mandate in the elections, not to mention the additional 1/3 who want to see him as President? Well, the answer is evident: their intentions are not clean as far as the way they intend to rule the country.

So it’s us who insist that he doesn’t compromise on the issue of the Presidency by accepting any other candidate. I admit that I am one of those who insist that he does not accept any other candidate. We feel that their plans for the country are not clean and any other candidate would give in to their plans for 2 reasons: 1) he/she doesn’t have the popular support to stand up to any of their devious plans; 2) he/she wouldn’t really try to oppose the ones to whom he/she owes their election.

So the question should be asked to the majority: why NOT Aoun?

Do you know that they can put Lebanon on the right track in 10 minutes by showing good intentions and nominating Aoun? Then, and only then, would there be any chance that FPM would consider another candidate. I would the first to advise him to consider any other candidate who can serve the best interests of Lebanon.

Considering that they have this option, I cannot believe any of their claims that they want to remove Lahoud for the good of the country. It’s for other ulterior motives…

It’s our duty to try to stop their plans.

The same people who benefitted from Lebanon the farm for so many years are still in power. It is indeed our duty to stop them from destroying what’s left of Lebanon.
