If this Aljazeera poll is accurate, 87.7% of its readers (mostly Arab Muslims) think that the Danish newspaper’s apology is not enough.

(Translation: Is the Danish Newspaper’s apology enough to stop the popular protests and boycotts? Yes: 12.3% , No:87.7%)
This question is for those of you who voted no: “What should the Danish Government have done for you to vote yes?”
Hello, my name is Mustapha and I blog in The Beirut Spring about Lebanese society and politics. I started in February 2005 after the killing of P.M. Rafik Hariri.

the whole poll issue is rediculous, giving the matter more than it deserves, I have to confess, even our napping moslems who shut their eyes to what goes on in the arabian lands (palestine and iraq specifically), Prophet Mohammed is so dear to them they actually will let go eating Kraft! wake up poeple, this is mockery with a cheesy face!
it would have been Funny Amal if we weren’t talking about 33,000 people who have access to the internet.
dear m,
online polls are quite useless. all this one says is that 32,386 people bothered to take part. no info on where they’re from, what they do for a living, or even if there were 32,386 different voters or one guy/girl running a voting program on his/her laptop.
that’s it.

I think people should begin demonstrating against those Frenchies as well:
“The Paris daily France Soir, on Wednesday, printed the dozen cartoons, explaining that it chose to do so to illustrate the polemic sparked by their original publication, in the Danish Jyllands-Posten paper last September. “
Boycott French fries, French bread and French’s mustard! You can count me in! I have had enough with French ideas like ‘alter-mondialism’, ‘ATTAC’ or ‘economic patriotism’. It’s all jingoistic mumbo-jumbo to me.
But let me tell you that you can kiss my ass before I boycott French kiss. Unless your rename it. Like the freedom fries. We’ll have some freedom kiss instead.
“This question is for those of you who voted no: What should the Danish Government have done for you to vote yes?…” [Mr. Mousse]
Answer: the beheading of the cartoonist Saudi-style would have been more Shariaa-compliant than the lame belated excuses of the Danish Prime-Minister!
;)
Ironically, throughout the Middle-Ages and until the 18th century, many libertine Western aristocrats and free-thinking philosophers were actually attracted by Islam because they viewed it as a more rationalist and modern faith than Christianity: after the defeat of Napoleon’s republican “Grand Army” and the return to power of the rightwing Catholic kings of France, several of Napoleon’s revolutionary generals choose to move to Cairo and some even converted to Sunni Islam.
But this was then…the times have changed and two hundred years of fanatical Wahhabi activism boosted by Saudi Arabia’s immense oil revenues, compounded by France and England’s brutal colonial practices in the Middle-East and North Africa, and America’s unwavering backing of Israel’s war crimes have succeeding in tilting the Mohammedan collective psyche towards a very reactionary interpretation of Islam, which in many ways is simply a natural defense reflex albeit an obscurantist and backward one…
Isaac Newton’s Third Law of Motion states: “To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction: or the mutual actions of two bodies upon each other are always equal, and directed to contrary parts. Whatever draws or presses another is as much drawn or pressed by that other”.
Prescient words indeed.
Well in response to the person who asked about runing the poll from a computer…cookies prohibit that and unless you keep deleting and returning, you wont be able to vote…i dont think anyone is thaaat sad?
secondly, the post mentions all the readers to be “arab moslem.” your audience assumption is just as ignorant as their poll…making you no different.
good words vega.
I don’t see why they have to apologize in the first place… especially considering that damn thing insults muslims!! It’s only a cartoon people, why didn’t revolt when savages were beheading people in the name of Islam, which is by far more insulting??

While I would say that online polls are not always reliable, I think in this case some important (and to me disturbing) inferences can be drawn.
1. As pointed out above, it is not easy to vote more than once, so likely this comes close to a “one person, one vote” sample.
2. The poll (I presume) is in Arabic, eliminating non-Arabic speaking individuals, and thereby indicating that it is indeed limited to ‘mostly Arab Muslims’ (since the overwhelming majority of Arabic speakers are Muslims.)
3. The poll by its nature is limited to literate individuals with access to computers. This would indicate that the poll was conducted among the educated (and perhaps even the elite) in the Arab world.
Taken together these results give one little optimism for the short term growth of tolerance and understanding between East and West. The 12.3 percent minority in the Arab world have a very difficult task facing them but they are the only ones who could possibly have an impact on the majority. I wish them luck.
War on all Arab/Mislams: What to do?
With Bush declaring war on all the Mislams now. These are scary time’s. How can should I to praserve my sanity best, and still to react in appropiate manner, in this dispairful moment?
1) Start a second blog about the war on all Mislams being wrong (to handle the extra material)
2)Make a joke blog( to let of steam)
3)Throw my hand’s up in the spare and say Enough
4)Get back into gaming alittle more
5)Take it to the steets (direct anction)
6)GNCD
7)More reading (YA fiction, ect). Because books is a good way to lose you’re troubles
8)Renewed focus on impending move to DC/NY area to be a regular (fulltime) Pundit
9)Join the U.S. Armed Militarys(I know this doesn’t make sense but just thought I’d throw it out there)
10)Lose myself in my baking

An Italian Catholic priest has been shot dead outside his church in north-east Turkey.
Police in the Black Sea port of Trabzon said they were searching for a teenage boy seen fleeing from the scene of the attack on Sunday.
It was unclear if the shooting was connected to widespread Muslim outrage over cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
Turkish broadcaster NTV identified the priest as Andrea Santore and said he died from a single shot to the chest.
Turkey has seen regular protests in recent days over the Danish caricatures of Muhammad.
