May Chidiac will never walk again.
All over the world, the Lebanese got used to May Chidiac’s smile. But it’s now hard to see her smile again. This image-conscious lady has just lost an arm and a leg to another savage explosion.
Who did it?
May was definitely one of the first prominent journalists to start criticizing Syria. She’s also a prominent Christian symbol (in other words, killing May would be the equivalent of bombing Ashrafieh or Kaslik).
But there’s another interesting factor that makes May stand out. There has recently been a very public and virulent exchange between her and Mr. Hassan Nassrallah from Hezbollah. He was referring to her as “malicious media figures that distorted the facts”, and she regularly attacked him for his comments over the majorities and minorities in Lebanon (he had said that the Christians in Lebanon are becoming a small minority). You could smell the mutual distrust.
This will once again divide the Lebanese. If you trust Hezbollah, you’ll say that the perpetrators are trying to drag Hezbollah into something they don’t have anything to do with. If you don’t trust them, you just got them red-handed.
I personally don’t know what to think. Let’s wait to have more info. Let’s also see how Hezbollah behaves.

As we can see from the above comments, Christian extremists are falling in the trap and starting to blame “the others” (Hizballah, Syrians, Palestinains… whoever is not pure maronite). The climate is reminiscent of 1974.
A few more bombs, and these idiots will pick up arms to “defend the Christian community”, and we will be back to square one, slaughtering each others for the greatest pleasure of our neighbors !
Now like then, our neighbours created this situation in order to arm ourselve and slaughter each others. I think that this time people will be more intelligent. There’s no threat against the Christians and we have learned history’s lessons.
But if Hezbollah could show the way, it would be even better.

I just wish, for once though, that when things like this happen, we concentrate on why it happened, and on the person, instead of trying to be analytical about political differences and making statements such as “got them red-handed” and “how hezbollah behaves”. Looking & hearing of what his happening in Lebanon, I can see that there is no leadership at all. President Lahood? who is this person? He who stands as president stands for the country & represents every heart & mouth! THis person must stand down! NOW!!!
I can see that the catholics are under attack in Lebanon. What a sad and disgusting world we live in. The Catholics are the greatest peacemakers & Muslims must demonstrate that they are peacemakers as well!
