I couldn’t help but post since Neyla Mouawad made this important speech from Ehden, North Lebanon, Where I’m currently spending some quality time.

Again, sorry for irregular posting.
Hello, my name is Mustapha and I blog in The Beirut Spring about Lebanese society and politics. I started in February 2005 after the killing of P.M. Rafik Hariri.

Dude, this poster is fucking disturbing! I’m not sure I’ll be able to sleep tonight!
This whole fight about the “ownership” of 14th of march is not a thing i would want to be part of. However, such speeches must not pass without being criticized. The only sides whose efforts and struggles might have the biggest share in reaching march 14 are the FPM and the LF, both in their internal and international pressure and sacrifices over 15 years. As for the Kornet Shehween group, their continuous “istinkar” proved not only useless but harmful since it buffered the population’s will for change for all these years. I wont comment on the FM and PSP part of the speech, they have been in a totally other world during these same years. We are honestly extremely happy for newcomers and it’s not that we want to take over all the credit, the happy end is all what we care about, however Neyla Mouawad should not ask these parties, LF or FPM, eno “yerbaho jmilee”, after all the sacrifices they made, ALONE!
PS: Great blog by the way, keep up the good work.

you should go to ehden more often… brilliant.

This is Aoun’s ultimate reply to Nayla:

DUUUUDE!!!!
What an image to wake up to!! Reminds me of the trannies I have to navigate trough on my way home every night!
First it was Aoun’s “under-the-table” deals with Pro-Syrian figures that made his return possible. Now, it’s Kornet Chehwan, PSP and Futur that brought him back… hmmm, interesting, how did they do that? I can’t find an answer to that question, so if somebody has one, plz be kind enough to post it.
It’s kind of deceiving that this kind of Joumblatti way of thinking came from Nayla Moawad.
Chill Moka, Aoun is not an angel and Jumblat is not Beelzebub. Deals were obviously struck between Lahoud and Aoun. Look at how quickly all legal hurdle were cleared for him! And to belittle the PSP, Future and Kornet coallition is just a plain fantasy. Without that coalition, Aoun’s 1000 or so brainwashed orange shirts will still be getting harassed and abused by Lahoud brown shirts.
Guess what, even with PSP and Future in power, Aoun’s “1000 or so brainwashed orange shirts” were getting their asses kicked by “brown shirt” men (for the record, 16000 in total were involved in direct physical and mental repression).
Finding hard to beleive that they (PSP + FM) will be able to stop it if it ever happens again. They didn’t do anything about it the previous times. Remember 7th and 9th of August. Not a single resignation, communique or press comment… So these people are supposed to be protecting Aoun’s followers now?
All i was saying is that it’s non sense to say that such a coalition made Aoun’s return possible, he was planning it way before the coallition was “born” (simply read his interviews with lebanese and international media, or watch Kalam el Nass with Marcel Ghanem a couple of days before 14th feb). Moreover, Geagea’s exit was meant to be and nobody should take credit for it, or say that without them it would have been impossible. It’s a lack of respect. Disapointing that it came from a so called ally. It’s not with this kind of Terbi7 Jmile that Moawad and KC will get more popular.
Anyways, anon, i’m chilled, don’t worry! :)
anonymous, i believe you contradicted yourself in one sentence by saying:
1- “Deals were obviously struck between Lahoud and Aoun.”
2- “Without that coalition, Aoun’s 1000 or so brainwashed orange shirts will still be getting harassed and abused by Lahoud brown shirts.”
Could you please explain so that we can get your point?
Also, could you please clarify why you consider the orange shirts’ people brainwashed? What about the yellow ones? and the Green ones? and the Blue ones? and the Red ones? and those shirts with crosses? and those with guns over the word ‘Allah’? and those with iran’s shadow on them? and those with corruption dollars in transparency on them?
I guess we all agree that every person following one single party is brainwashed. No party is perfect and unless we are able to judge everyone’s mistakes objectively, we will all remain brainwashed.
Aoun has committed TREMENDOUS mistakes, IMHO, but I guess he is as guilty as all the others. All our politicians have rubbed, or killed, or lied and dissimulated facts, or benefitted from the syrian or israeli presence, whether directly, or indirectly.
The deals were struck to sabotage the PSP/Future/Kornet/LF election juggernaut that was coming. That coming election juggernaut was probably behind Hariri’s murder. With regards to my comment about Aoun’s supporters, it really comes out of frustration. His supporters seem to be mostly well educated and urban. Yet, their devotion to a populist leader with a messianic complex verges on religeous fervor.
Aoun making secret deals with falling figures with a well known “zero” popularity, or at least “relatively zero” popularity, makes no sense to me and getting into the “who started it” game is fruitless so we’d better not go there. However, i just want to point out that Aoun’s huge and mostly well-educated base(as u mentioned above) blindly support him because of the 15 years he spent gaining their trust by being honest, straight-forward and “transparent”. His actions during this period, filled their “emotional banks”, making any withdrawal or risk taken, trusted to be a right decision, or at least the best possible decision, by his followers.

I laughed when i first read that this book is life-changing, but it did in fact change my point of view in many ways. Leaving work now, will be back next tuesday, have a nice weekend all.
